Happy Birthday!
The New Atlantis turned five years old today. They recently redesigned their website, and the result is mighty spiffy. As is the trend these days, the revamp came with a set of bloggers (soon everyone West of 7th street in Northwest DC will be a paid blogger), including a blog on assisted reproductive technologies by my Doublethink colleague (and sometime TAS contributor) Cheryl Miller. Go forth, read and enjoy.
Just for the record, I am WAY west of 9th Street and I am not a paid blogger.

Alan: you remind me of the time I went to hear Boiled in Lead play at a bar in the East Village. The MC introduced them as a great band from Chicago, and they immediately shouted back from the flies, “Minneapolis!” To which the MC replied, “whatever; it’s all north of 14th Street.”

It’s true. During the few month I lived in New York, I’d often walk south from 33rd after work. The 14th street divide is strangely clear. I always felt like I should have to cross through customs or something whenever I passed from one side to the other.
